Grand opening of Boulanje Manman Troll
17 August 2012 the bakery, Boulanje Manman Troll, was officially opened. The guests included members of Manman Troll, representatives from Helle Bennet Almennyttige Fond and guaest of honor Mimerose Beaubrun from the well known Haitian band BOUKMAN EXPERYANS. Mimerose performed the formal opening by cutting bow to the bakery.
The opening party was great, with nice speaches and singing by the Manman Troll choir. The guests got to taste the different products offered by the bakery.
The bakery is a cooperation project between architect and industrial design students at NTNU, the architect burau Tyin Tegnestue and Åpent Bakeri in Oslo. The building and equipment/oven has been financed by Helle Bennet Almennyttige Fond, Norad and Prosjekt Haiti. Regal has donated 5 tons of flour that is now used for production of bread. Project manager from Project Haiti is Ragnhild Slettner- St. Hilaire.
The bakery will focus on traditinal white bread to be sold from the bakery and by approximately 60 women in Manman Troll. An oven for cakes have been bought in order to be able to provide catering services (graduations, children’s parties etc). The bakery will have a small cafe where guests can can drink Haitian coffee and eat produce from the bakery. The equipment has been ordered especialy from Santo Domingo. In September, employees from Åpent Bakeri will be conducting training for the employees of the bakery. We are also working to set up a Peace Corps exchange of bakers from Åpent Bakeri and BoulanjeManman Troll.
